CITES CoP20

The 20th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP20) took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan between 24 November and 5 December 2025.

  • Aim: To mark 50 years of CITES and strengthen global wildlife trade governance and species protection.

Organised by: Convened under the CITES framework.

Key Outcomes

  • Addition of 77 species to CITES Appendices with stricter protection.
  • Inclusion of sharks, rays, iguanas, and reptiles under higher protection categories.
  • Downlisting of certain species like Saiga antelope and Guadalupe fur seal due to conservation success.
