International Court of Justice (ICJ)

The ICJ was established in 1945 and began functioning in 1946 as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

  • It is located at The Hague, Netherlands, and operates under the Statute of the ICJ (integral part of UN Charter).
  • The Court consists of 15 judges elected for 9-year terms by both UNGA and UNSC.
