Lt. General M. Subramanian becomes new Force Commander of UNMISS
Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian of the Indian Army has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as his new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
- Lt. Gen. Subramanian succeeds Lt. Gen. Shailesh Tinaikar, also from the Indian Army.
T Raja Kumar
On 1 July 2022, T Raja Kumar from Singapore was appointed as the president of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for a two-year term. He replaced Marcus Pleyer.
- FATF is the anti-money laundering watchdog headquartered at Paris (France) with 39 members.
- India is a member of the FATF since 2010.
Nitin Gupta appointed as the Chairman of CBDT
IRS officer Nitin Gupta has been appointed as the new Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
- He will replace Ms. Sangeeta Singh who was given the additional charge.
About CBDT
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1963.
- It is the administrative body for the Income Tax department.
- The CBDT is headed by a Chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary.

IPS officer S L Thaosen has been appointed as the Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
- The post of SSB chief has been lying vacant after incumbent DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra retired on December 31 last year.
- Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) DG Sanjay Arora has been holding the additional charge of the Sashastra Seema Bal DG since then.
- Prior to this appointment, S L Thaosen was serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF).

- Earlier, Albanese served as deputy prime minister of Australia under the second Rudd government in 2013.
Rajiv Kumar appointed as Chief Election Commissioner
On 12 May 2022, Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar was appointed as the next chief election commissioner.
- He will assume charge on May 15 after incumbent Sushil Chandra demits office on May 14.
- At present, Anup Chandra Pandey is the other Election Commissioner in the three member body.
Some Facts on Election Commissioner
- Appointment: The Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners are appointed by the President.
- Tenure: They have tenure of six years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
- Status & Perks: They enjoy the same status and receive salary and perks as available to Judges of the Supreme Court of India.
- Equal Say: All Election Commissioners have equal say in the decision making of the Commission.
- Removal: The Chief Election Commissioner can be removed from the office in a manner similar to the removal of a judge of the Supreme Court of India which requires a resolution passed by the Parliament of India a two-thirds majority in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on the grounds of proved misbehaviour or incapacity. Other Election Commissioners can be removed by the President of India on the recommendation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Lt. Gen. B.S. Raju becomes Vice Chief of the Army Staff
The Army’s Director General of Military Operations, Lt General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju, has been appointed the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.
- He replaced Lt Gen Manoj C Pande, who was appointed as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
- This is a rare instance where a three star officer took over as Vice Chief before serving tenure as an Army Commander.
- As a practice in the Army, Vice Chiefs have for a long time been those who had already served as Army Commander.
Lt Gen Manoj C Pande appointed as next Chief of Army Staff
- Lt Gen Manoj C Pande, presently Vice Chief of the Army Staff, has been appointed as the next (29th) Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) with effect from the afternoon of April 30, 2022.
- He will replace General MM Naravane.
- He is the first engineer to become the Army Chief.
- Currently, Admiral Hari Kumar is the Chief of Indian Navy and Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari is the chief of Indian Air Force.
Vinay Kwatra appointed as the new Foreign Secretary
- The Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed as the next Foreign Secretary.
- He is set to take over the position on April 30, the day present Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla retires.
- The foreign secretary is the administrative head of the Ministry of External Affairs, and is the principal adviser to the minister of external affairs on all matters of policy and administration within the External Affairs Ministry.
