• Asteroid (215884) Jayantmurthy named by IAU after Prof. Jayant Murthy of IIA.
• Designation announced by IAU's Working Group on Small Bodies Nomenclature on March 18.
• Asteroid discovered by M.W. Buie at Kitt Peak National Observatory in 2005.
• Named in recognition of Prof. Murthy's work on NASA's New Horizons Science Team.
• Prof. Murthy's research focuses on interstellar medium, ultraviolet astronomy, and space missions.
• He joins earlier IIA directors Prof. M.K. Vainu Bappu and Prof. J.C. Bhatacharyya, who have asteroids named after them.
