Manoj Panda, former director at the Institute of Economic Growth, has been appointed as a full-time member of the 16th Finance Commission.

  • The appointment was announced by the finance ministry through a notification.
  • Panda's tenure will last until the submission of the Commission's report or October 31, 2025, whichever is earlier.
  • He replaces Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, who resigned due to unforeseen personal circumstances.
  • Panda's expertise lies in monitoring macroeconomic trends, analyzing fiscal policies, and evaluating trade options for growth and distribution.
  • Previously, he held positions at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) in Hyderabad and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai.
  • Panda also worked as an economist at the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi.
  • Other full-time members include Ajay Narayan Jha and Annie George Mathew, while Soumya Kanti Ghosh serves as a part-time member.
