India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024

The 8th edition of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced at the Surya Foreign Training Node in Auli, Uttarakhand, and will run from September 30 to October 13, 2024.
- The exercise, first held in 2016, is conducted annually, with the last edition hosted in Otar, Kazakhstan, from October 30 to November 11, 2023.
- The Indian Armed Forces are represented by 120 personnel, including a battalion from the KUMAON Regiment of the Indian Army, with support from other arms and the Indian Air Force.
- The Kazakhstan contingent consists of personnel from the Land Forces and Airborne Assault Troopers.
- The main objective of KAZIND-2024 is to enhance joint military capability to carry out counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
- Tactical drills will focus on joint responses to terrorist actions, establishing a Joint Command Post, Intelligence and Surveillance Centre, securing helipads, and conducting operations such as combat free falls and cordon-and-search missions.
- Advanced techniques like Special Heliborne Operations, drone use, and counter-drone systems will also be rehearsed to increase operational efficiency.
- The exercise will foster interoperability and camaraderie between the two armies, reinforcing defense cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations between India and Kazakhstan.
