International Day of Older Persons

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will host a series of activities throughout October to honour senior citizens and promote their welfare, culminating in celebrations on the International Day of Older Persons on 1st October 2024.
- The Rashtriya Vayoshree Camps will be organized at 51 locations across India, focusing on providing essential care and mobility aids to senior citizens, promoting their overall well-being.
- Various ministries, including Education and AYUSH, will collaborate to implement programs that support the welfare of senior citizens, particularly in rural areas, by encouraging intergenerational bonding and family values.
- The National Institute of Social Defence will initiate a talk series on October 16 to discuss crucial issues affecting senior citizens, such as their rights and the significance of healthy and active aging.
- A new Senior Citizen Welfare Portal will soon be launched, providing comprehensive information on policies, schemes, and welfare measures available to senior citizens, thereby enhancing their access to essential resources.
