Very Short-Range Air Defence System
- 07 Oct 2024
On October 3 and 4, 2024, DRDO completed three flight-tests of the advanced miniaturized VSHORADS missile system, demonstrating its hit-to-kill capability in various scenarios, including approaching, receding, and crossing targets.
Key Points
- Development Completion and Early Production: The development of VSHORADS missiles has been completed, and two production agencies are engaged in the Development cum Production Partner (DcPP) mode.
- The trials used missiles produced through DcPP, setting the stage for early user trials and production under India’s 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
- Indigenous Design and Development: VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System indigenously developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and industry partners.
