National Voters’ Day 2025: Empowering Democracy

On 25th January 2025, National Voters’ Day, was celebrated annually underscoring the importance of voting and commemorates the foundation of the Election Commission of India in 1950.
- National Voters’ Day was established in 2011 to encourage voter registration, particularly among young voters, and to promote awareness of democratic participation.
- The 2025 theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure,” reinforces the significance of voting as a powerful tool for shaping the nation’s future.
- January 25 was chosen as it marks the establishment of the Election Commission of India in 1950, an institution critical to ensuring free and fair elections.
- This day is pivotal in empowering first-time voters by helping them register and providing them with voter identity cards (EPIC).
- National Voters’ Day also celebrates the Election Commission’s dedication to promoting electoral literacy and ensuring transparency in the electoral process through awareness campaigns.
