Telangana Implements SC Reservation Categorisation Act
- 14 Apr 2025

On 14th April 2025, Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the Telangana government officially implemented the Scheduled Caste (SC) Categorisation of Reservations Act 2025, marking a significant reform in the state’s social justice framework.
- The government issued a formal order (GO) today, putting into effect a legislation passed by the State Legislature last month and recently approved by the State Governor.
 - A total of 56 Scheduled Caste communities in Telangana have now been reorganised into three distinct sub-groups to ensure more balanced access to reservation benefits.
 - The move aims to address the long-standing concerns of internal disparities among SC communities regarding representation in education, jobs, and political positions.
 - This categorisation is expected to shape future policies on affirmative action by focusing attention on SC sub-groups that have been historically underrepresented.
