Telangana Implements SC Reservation Categorisation Act

On 14th April 2025, Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the Telangana government officially implemented the Scheduled Caste (SC) Categorisation of Reservations Act 2025, marking a significant reform in the state’s social justice framework.

The government issued a formal order (GO) today, putting into effect a legislation passed by the State Legislature last month and recently approved by the State Governor.
A total of 56 Scheduled Caste communities in Telangana have now been reorganised into three distinct sub-groups to ensure more balanced access to reservation benefits.
The move aims to address the long-standing concerns of internal disparities among SC communities regarding representation in education, jobs, and political positions.
This categorisation is expected to shape future policies on affirmative action by focusing attention on SC sub-groups that have been historically underrepresented.
