India Activates S-400, Barak 8 & Akash Missile Systems

On 8th May 2025, the Indian Armed Forces activated its S-400 Triumf, Barak 8 MRSAM, and Akash air defence systems along with the Integrated Counter-UAS Grid to intercept coordinated drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on 15 military bases and key cities.

- S-400 Triumf System: The Russian-made long-range surface-to-air missile system can intercept drones, missiles, aircraft, and ballistic threats.
- It forms an anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) bubble with radar-guided precision.
- Akash Missile Deployment: Developed by DRDO, Akash is a mobile, short-range SAM system capable of engaging multiple aerial targets with ECCM features and Rajendra radar for target tracking.
- Barak 8 MRSAM Capabilities: Jointly developed by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries, Barak 8 is equipped with multifunction radars and mobile launchers.
- Integrated Counter-UAS Grid: Activated by the IAF, this system integrates radar, missiles, and electronic warfare tools to track and neutralise hostile drones before they breach airspace.
