India and China Review LAC Situation

On 23rd July 2025, India and China held the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) meeting in New Delhi to review the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh and prepare for the next round of Special Representatives' dialogue on the boundary issue.

WMCC Meeting in Delhi: Officials from both countries expressed satisfaction over the “general prevalence of peace and tranquillity” along the LAC, helping bilateral ties move towards gradual normalisation.
Upcoming SR Dialogue: The next round of the Special Representatives (SR) talks will take place in India later this year.
Strengthening Dialogue Channels: Both sides agreed to continue regular contact at diplomatic and military levels through established mechanisms to manage the border effectively.
Focus on Border Management: Discussions included implementation of measures explored during the 23rd round of SR talks to advance peace and stability in border areas.
Backdrop of SCO and High-Level Talks: The WMCC talks came shortly after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to China for the SCO foreign ministers’ conclave.
Cultural Diplomacy and Connectivity: China has proposed reviving the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra and initiating direct flights to “inject new impetus” into India-China ties.
