On 9th August 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the revolutionaries of the Kakori Train Action, marking the centenary of the historic incident that shook the British Empire during India’s freedom struggle.

  • On 9th August 1925, revolutionaries of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) stopped the Number 8 down train near Kakori railway station and looted funds from the guard’s cabin belonging to the British Government Treasury.
  • The revolutionaries involved included Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, Rajendranath Lahiri, and Sachindranath Sanyal, all of whom played crucial roles in the operation.
  • The robbery aimed to fund the activities of the HRA using money taken from the British administration, which was originally collected through heavy taxation of the Indian populace.
