Wildlife Week 2025 Focuses on Coexistence

On 6th October 2025, the Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations were held in Dehradun, under the theme “Human–Wildlife Coexistence,” bringing together officials, scientists, and conservationists from across India.
- The celebrations were organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in collaboration with WII, ICFRE, IGNFA, and FRI, highlighting a collaborative and inter-institutional approach to sustainable wildlife management.
- The need for community-driven and technology-enabled conservation models was highlighted, urging stakeholders to move from conflict to coexistence through awareness, innovation, and collective participation.
- Five national projects were launched during the event, including Project Dolphin (Phase II), Project Sloth Bear, Project Gharial, the Centre of Excellence for Human–Wildlife Conflict Management (CoE–HWC), and the Tigers Outside Tiger Reserves Initiative, aimed at species conservation and human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
- Four national-level population estimation programmes were unveiled, covering river dolphins and cetaceans, tigers, snow leopards, and the Great Indian Bustard and Lesser Florican, with field guides published in multiple regional languages.
- In the National Hackathon on Human–Wildlife Conflict (HWC) Coexistence, 20 states and UTs presented AI-based tools, spatial analytics, and community engagement models for real-time conflict mitigation.
