Donald Trump

On 15th January 2026, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House, describing it as a gesture recognising his commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.

  • The meeting marked the first in-person interaction between Trump and Machado and came amid her efforts to influence US policy on Venezuela’s political transition following the capture of former president Nicolas Maduro by US forces earlier this month.
  • Machado’s outreach follows Trump’s public reluctance to back her as Venezuela’s immediate future leader, citing insufficient short-term political support inside the country.
  • Although the Norwegian Nobel Institute has recently clarified that the Nobel Peace Prize itself cannot be transferred, shared, or revoked.
