India–Netherlands Launch Hydrogen Fellowship Programme

On 6th February 2026, India and the Netherlands strengthened clean energy cooperation with the launch of the India–Netherlands Hydrogen Fellowship Programme and a new academic partnership between the University of Groningen and 19 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Key Points
- New Clean Energy Initiative: The fellowship programme and academic collaboration were facilitated by the Department of Science and Technology to boost research and innovation in green hydrogen technologies.
- Capacity Building Focus: The Hydrogen Fellowship Programme is a national initiative open to doctoral, postdoctoral and faculty applicants from Indian institutions to strengthen expertise in hydrogen systems.
- International Exposure: The programme will provide structured training in the Netherlands in areas such as system integration, safety, techno-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment and pathways for indigenisation.
- Academic Partnership MoU: A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of Groningen and 19 IITs to promote long-term academic collaboration in hydrogen and green energy research.
- Knowledge Exchange: The MoU will support faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects and knowledge-sharing platforms without automatic financial commitments.
- Policy Alignment: The initiatives aim to support national priorities such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission, energy independence by 2047 and India’s net-zero emissions target for 2070.
