Gujarat Passes Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill

On 24th March 2026, the Gujarat Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026. The Bill aims to ensure equality and uniform legal framework.
- Gujarat becomes the second state after Uttarakhand to implement UCC.

- Invalid divorce may attract punishment up to 3 years.
- Mandatory registration of live-in relationships introduced.

- Equal inheritance rights ensured for sons and daughters.
- Legal protection and maintenance rights strengthened for women.
- Children get legal recognition and inheritance rights.
- The Bill aligns with Article 44 of the Constitution.
