‘Vishwa Sutra’ Unveiled at Femina Miss India

On 19th April 2026, the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) and the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) unveiled “Vishwa Sutra - Weaves of India for the World” at Femina Miss India 2026 in Bhubaneswar.

  • The collection features 30 Indian handloom weaves, each inspired by a different country’s design aesthetics.
  • It aims to position Indian handlooms in a global, contemporary fashion narrative.
  • The initiative blends traditional weaves with international silhouettes and cultural influences.
  • Examples include Odisha Ikat with Greek styles, Kanchipuram with Norwegian lines, and Banarasi with UAE-inspired designs.
  • The collection was showcased by 30 state winners during the event’s opening round.
  • The initiative aligns with the “Vocal for Local to Global” vision and the 5F framework (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign).
