9th India International Water Week 2026

On September 22, 2026, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 9th India International Water Week 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti from September 22 to 26, the theme of the event is 'Climate-Resilient Water Management'.

Focus on Water Management: The five-day event focuses on integrated water management, river-basin management, groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting, and water-use efficiency in the context of climate change, urbanization, and population growth.
New Initiatives: The Sustainable Urban River Management (SURM) Framework and an AI/ML-driven Integrated Reservoir Sedimentation Management system were launched during the event.
Water Availability in India: India accounts for approximately 18% of the world's population and 2.4% of its land area, but possesses only about 4% of the global freshwater resources.
Interstate Cooperation: Emphasizing collaboration among states in water sharing and management, interstate agreements—including the Kishau Multipurpose Project—were highlighted, along with an emphasis on linking water conservation with public participation (Jan Bhagidari).
