India and US Sign MoU to Achieve Net Zero Emission Goal

On 5th January, 2024,the Union Cabinet led by PM has approved an MoU between India and the USA (USAID/India) to support Indian Railways in achieving Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030.

  • Mission Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030: The MoU aims to aid Indian Railways in reaching this goal by fostering collaboration on technological advancements and sharing knowledge within the railway sector.
  • Reducing Fuel Dependency: It intends to diminish reliance on imported fuels like Diesel and Coal by promoting the deployment of Renewable Energy (RE) plants, fostering RE technology, and bolstering local ecosystem and product development.
  • Focus Areas: The MoU facilitates modernizing utilities, implementing advanced energy solutions, integrating regional energy markets, involving the private sector, conducting training and workshops on Renewable Energy, energy efficiency, and knowledge sharing.
