MoUs between India and Netherlands, Dominican Republic & Ecuador Approved

On 18th January, 2024, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved separate memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of medical products regulation with Netherlands, Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

  • Signed MoUs: Three MoUs were signed between CDSCO, the Health Ministry’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and competent registering authorities from countries named.
  • Dominican Republic MoU: The MoU with the Directorate General for Medicine, Foods and Sanitary Products Organisations of Dominican Republic focuses on challenges related to counterfeit medicine in global markets.
  • Facilitating Interaction Among Regulatory Agencies: The MoUs promote communication among regional regulators to address concerns regarding quality of medicinal products in global markets.
  • Netherlands MoI: The Memorandum of Intent (MoI) between the FDA and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport enhances cooperation in medical product regulation.
  • Regulatory Practices Convergence: Regulatory convergence is anticipated to increase the export of medicines from India, thereby providing employment in pharmaceutical sector.
  • Ecuador MoU: The MoU between Agencia Nacional de Regulaction, Control Y Vigilancia Sanitria 'ARCSA and Doctor Leopoldo Izquieta Perez of Ecuador fosters the understanding on regulatory aspects which in turn helps to establish cooperation within medical products regulation.
  • Coordination in International Fora: The accords will facilitate improved coordination in international bodies, thereby enhancing India’s stature on the global stage of pharmaceutical.
  • Foreign Exchange Earnings: The MoUs are likely to help in the export of medical items which will earn foreign exchange and also support Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
  • Towards Self-Reliant India: These steps are highlighted as the progression towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat where self-reliance and growth in Pharma fields is promoted.
