Guidelines on Incentives to DISCOMs

On July 22nd the government has issued operational guidelines for the implementation of incentives to DISCOMs under PM-Surya Ghar- Muft Bijli Yojana, which was approved by the Central government in February 2024.
Key Points
- The Scheme Guidelines for implementation of 'Incentives to DISCOMs’ under PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana have been notified by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on 18th July 2024.
- The aim of the guidelines is to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity.
- These guidelines will govern the implementation of the Incentives to DISCOMs component of PM – Surya Ghar- Muft Bijli Yojana.
- The scheme has an outlay of over 75 thousand crore rupees and is to be implemented till 2026-27.
- Under the scheme, DISCOMs will receive incentives based on their achievement in the installation of additional grid-connected rooftop solar capacity beyond a baseline level.
- DISCOMs have been designated as State Implementation Agencies responsible for facilitating various measures including net meter availability, timely inspection, and commissioning of installations.
