New Weather Forecast Initiative

On 24th October, 2024, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in partnership with the India Meteorological Department, launched a new initiative aimed at providing daily weather forecasts to Gram Panchayats.

• This initiative seeks to enhance preparedness among rural communities to respond effectively to natural disasters and support farmers in making informed decisions.
• By providing access to hourly weather forecasts, the program is designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and bolster the resilience of the rural population against climate-related challenges.
• Weather forecasts will be accessible through the digital platform e-GramSwaraj and the mobile application Meri Panchayat, facilitating easy access for Gram Panchayat members.
• A workshop will be organized by the Ministry to train Gram Panchayat representatives on how to effectively utilize these weather forecasting tools for their communities.
• The initiative represents a significant step towards integrating climate information into rural governance, empowering communities to adapt and thrive in the face of environmental changes.
