Railways Implements New Crowd Control Measures
- 08 Mar 2025

On 7th March 2025, the Ministry of Railways announced a series of crowd control measures to enhance passenger safety at railway stations.
Key Points
- Permanent Waiting Areas: The Railways will create permanent waiting areas outside 60 stations, ensuring passengers enter platforms only when their train arrives, preventing overcrowding.
 - Pilot Projects & Access Control: Complete access control will be enforced at 60 stations, restricting platform entry to only confirmed ticket holders.
 - Foot-Over Bridges: Stations will be equipped with newly designed 12-metre and 6-metre-wide foot-over bridges, inspired by crowd management techniques used during Mahakumbh.
 - Surveillance & Monitoring: A large number of cameras will be installed inside stations and surrounding areas to monitor real-time crowd movements and prevent congestion.
 - War Rooms & Digital Coordination: Major stations will have war rooms for emergency coordination. Railway staff will be equipped with digital communication tools such as walkie-talkies and announcement systems.
 - Uniforms & ID Cards: Newly designed ID cards and uniforms will be issued to railway staff to restrict unauthorized access and improve visibility during emergencies.
 - Role of Station Directors: Every major station will have a senior officer as Station Director, who will have financial authority for quick decision-making and control over ticket sales to manage crowd levels.
