Garimella Balakrishna Prasad

On 9th March 2025, noted classical singer and former Asthana Vidwan of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, passed away due to a heart attack at his home in Tirupati at the age of 76.

Balakrishna Prasad served as the court musician at TTD from 1978 to 2006, where he played a crucial role in composing and popularizing Annamacharya’s devotional compositions.
He composed melodies for over 1,000 compositions of saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya, bringing them from lyrical form to musical life, making them accessible to devotees and music lovers.
Some of his famous compositions, including "Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnukatha," "Pidikita Thalambrala Pellikoothuru," and "Jagadapu Chanavula Jajara," were featured in the Telugu film Annamayya, starring Akkineni Nagarjuna.
