Parameswaran Iyer

  • 08 May 2025

On 7th may 2025, Parameswaran Iyer was temporarily appointed as India’s nominee director at the IMF ahead of a key Executive Board meeting on May 9.

  • Iyer’s appointment fills the vacancy created after K V Subramanian’s services as India’s executive director at the IMF were terminated six months before his term’s scheduled end.
  • The appointment comes just before the IMF Executive Board is set to review a $1.3 billion climate resilience loan and Pakistan’s $7 billion bailout package.
  • India’s decision is viewed as strategic, given its diplomatic stance against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists.
  • If India had not nominated Iyer, Sri Lanka’s alternate executive director Harischandra Kumbure would have taken over duties on India’s behalf.
