India Urges Global Action to Save Mountains

On 16th May 2025, India proposed a five-point global action plan to protect mountain ecosystems at the Sagarmatha Sambaad in Nepal, emphasizing cooperation, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

  • Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav represented India at the summit themed “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity” held in Kathmandu.
  • He called for urgent international collaboration to protect fragile mountain regions like the Himalayas, underscoring their ecological and cultural significance.
  • He stressed the need for developed nations to fulfill their commitments on climate finance and technology transfer.
