An Indian Army contingent has departed to participate in the 17th edition of the Indo-Mongolian joint military exercise ‘Nomadic Elephant’ scheduled in Ulaanbaatar from May 31 to June 13, 2025.

  • The annual bilateral military exercise ‘Nomadic Elephant’ alternates between India and Mongolia, with the 2024 edition previously held in Umroi, Meghalaya.
  • The Indian Army is being represented by 45 personnel, primarily from a battalion of the Arunachal Scouts, a unit specialized in high-altitude warfare and regional operations.
  • The Mongolian Armed Forces contingent, matching the Indian strength, will include personnel from its 150 Special Forces unit, known for expertise in tactical and mountainous operations.
  • The primary objective of the exercise is to enhance interoperability between the two nations’ forces in semi-conventional military operations under a United Nations mandate.
  • The field training exercise will focus on platoon-level operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrains, simulating realistic battlefield conditions.
