Study: No Link Between COVID-19 Vaccines and Sudden Deaths
- 02 Jul 2025
On 1st July 2025, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released findings from comprehensive studies by India’s top health research bodies, confirming no link between COVID-19 vaccines and sudden deaths among adults aged 18–45.
Key Points
- Extensive Studies Conducted: Research led by ICMR, NCDC, and AIIMS New Delhi investigated unexplained sudden deaths in young adults post-pandemic.
- No Link to Vaccines: The studies found no evidence connecting COVID-19 vaccination to sudden deaths in the 18–45 age group.
- AIIMS Prospective Study: Ongoing research indicates myocardial infarction (heart attacks) is the leading cause of sudden deaths in young adults, with patterns consistent with previous years.
- Other Causes Identified: Pre-existing health conditions, genetic mutations, lifestyle factors, and post-COVID complications were found to be significant contributors.
- Misinformation Warning: Health experts warned that unverified claims linking vaccines to fatalities can undermine public trust and fuel vaccine hesitancy.
- Vaccine Safety Reaffirmed: The findings reinforce the safety of COVID-19 vaccines used in India, supporting continued confidence in the national immunisation program.
