On 12th July 2025, the Indian Army launched ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’, a high-intensity annual security operation aimed at ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Yatra amid growing security threats.

  • This year’s operation is being conducted under increased vigilance due to heightened threats from Pakistan-backed proxy groups following recent counter-terrorism operations in the Kashmir Valley.
  • Over 8,500 Indian Army troops have been deployed, supported by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and civil administration in a comprehensive multi-agency security plan.
  • A robust counter-terror grid and advanced surveillance infrastructure have been activated, including continuous UAV missions and live monitoring of pilgrimage routes and the holy cave.
  • A special counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) network comprising over 50 anti-drone systems and electronic warfare assets has been positioned to neutralize any aerial threats.
