- 07 Aug 2025
In August 2025, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will launch the ICMR-SHINE Initiative (Science & Health Innovation for the Nextgen Explorers), a nationwide outreach programme aimed at fostering scientific temperament among school students.
- The Initiative is specifically designed for students from Classes 9 to 12 across India to spark interest in science, health, and biomedical research.
- All ICMR institutes across the country are participating in the programme by hosting interactive and educational activities simultaneously, ensuring maximum student engagement nationwide.
- The initiative aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of Indian health researchers and innovators through hands-on learning and exposure to real-world scientific environments.
- The programme reflects the Indian Council of Medical Research’s broader commitment to nurturing scientific talent in India and strengthening the country’s position in global health research and innovation.
- The launch of the initiative coincides with the birth anniversary of Professor V. Ramalingaswami, a renowned Indian medical researcher and pioneer in the field, to honour his legacy.
