Culture Ministry Launched ‘Gyan Bharatam’ Mission
- 11 Sep 2025
On 11th September 2205, the Ministry of Culture launched ‘Gyan Bharatam’, a landmark national initiative aimed at preserving, digitising, and disseminating India’s manuscript heritage.
- The Ministry hosted the first-ever Gyan Bharatam International Conference at Vigyan Bhawan from September 11–13, 2025.
- The three-day international conference on ‘Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage’ brought together over 1,100 participants, including scholars, institutions, and cultural practitioners from India and abroad, fostering collaboration on manuscript preservation and knowledge revival.
- The mission identified and documented manuscripts through a nationwide register, conserved fragile texts, and carried out large-scale digitisation using AI-driven tools.
- A National Digital Repository was created to provide scholars and the public with centralised access to manuscripts, enabling wider research and engagement with India’s intellectual heritage.
- The initiative promoted translation, publication, and study of rare manuscripts, trained conservators and scholars, developed digital platforms, and encouraged public participation programmes to generate awareness and community involvement.
