India Unveils UPI–UPU Integration for Remittances

On 8th September 2025, the Union government unveiled the UPI–UPU Integration project at the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai, calling it a landmark initiative to transform cross-border remittances and expand financial inclusion worldwide.
- The UPI–UPU integration has been developed jointly by the Department of Posts, NPCI International Payments Limited, and the Universal Postal Union (UPU), bringing together India’s world-leading digital payments system with the global postal network.
- The project links India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the UPU Interconnection Platform, enabling instant, secure, and affordable money transfers across borders, particularly benefiting families and migrant workers.
- Minister announced that India will commit USD 10 million during this UPU cycle to support innovation, e-commerce, digital payments, training, and capacity-building programs in member countries.
