India Flags Off Historic All-Women Sailing Expedition

  • 12 Sep 2025

On 11th September 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged off the world’s first tri-service all-women circumnavigation sailing expedition, Samudra Pradakshina, from the Gateway of India, Mumbai.

  • The expedition, involving 10 women officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, marks the first-ever global circumnavigation by an all-women tri-service team.
  • The officers will sail aboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni, a 50-foot indigenously-built yacht from Puducherry, symbolising Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
  • Over the next nine months, the team will cover approximately 26,000 nautical miles on an easterly route, crossing the Equator twice and rounding the three great Capes — Leeuwin, Horn, and Good Hope.
  • The expedition is scheduled to conclude in May 2026, with the team returning to Mumbai after completing the challenging global journey.
