India Flags Off Historic All-Women Sailing Expedition

On 11th September 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged off the world’s first tri-service all-women circumnavigation sailing expedition, Samudra Pradakshina, from the Gateway of India, Mumbai.

The expedition, involving 10 women officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, marks the first-ever global circumnavigation by an all-women tri-service team.
The officers will sail aboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni, a 50-foot indigenously-built yacht from Puducherry, symbolising Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Over the next nine months, the team will cover approximately 26,000 nautical miles on an easterly route, crossing the Equator twice and rounding the three great Capes — Leeuwin, Horn, and Good Hope.
The expedition is scheduled to conclude in May 2026, with the team returning to Mumbai after completing the challenging global journey.
