6th ASEAN-India Digital Ministers’ Meeting

On 16th January 2026, the 6th ASEAN-India Digital Ministers’ Meeting was held virtually under the theme “Adaptive ASEAN: From Connectivity to Connected Intelligence”, reaffirming the shared commitment of ASEAN Member States and India to strengthen regional digital cooperation with a focus on inclusion and integration.

Key Points:

  • ASEAN–India Digital Work Plan 2026: The meeting welcomed the approval of the ASEAN–India Digital Work Plan 2026, focusing on ICT training and capacity-building programmes, the India–ASEAN Regulators’ Conference, and deployment of telecom and ICT solutions.
  • ASEAN–India Fund for the Digital Future: Participants welcomed the operationalisation of a special ASEAN–India Fund aimed at supporting future-oriented digital cooperation initiatives.
  • India’s Digital Public Infrastructure: India highlighted its indigenous and cost-effective digital public infrastructure solutions, including Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker, and the Sanchar Saathi initiative for telecom user protection and fraud prevention.
  • Artificial Intelligence Cooperation: India underlined collaboration in Artificial Intelligence through the IndiaAI Mission, with emphasis on the development of safe, secure, and trusted AI systems.
  • Shared Digital Vision: The meeting reaffirmed the shared vision of India and ASEAN to build an open, secure, inclusive, and resilient digital ecosystem to support regional growth and innovation.
