Two MoUs Boost India’s Maritime Self-Reliance

On 3rd February 2026, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in New Delhi—one for the formation of the Bharat Container Shipping Line and another for financing the Outer Harbour Project at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA).
- The MoUs were signed in the presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, and Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
- The agreements aim to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and reduce dependence on foreign shipping operators, enhancing self-reliance in the shipping sector.
