On 21st February 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone of the HCL-Foxconn Joint Venture project ‘India Chip Pvt. Ltd’ in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority at Jewar in Greater Noida of Uttar Pradesh.
- The project supports India’s push for semiconductor self-reliance.
- It is part of the broader India Semiconductor Mission.
- The government has approved 10 semiconductor fabrication and packaging projects.
- Four semiconductor units are expected to begin production soon.
- The Chips to Startup programme aims to train 85,000 professionals.
- Rare Earth Corridors will support semiconductor and battery manufacturing.
- The unit is expected to generate employment and boost local ecosystems.
- Uttar Pradesh accounts for over half of India’s mobile phone manufacturing.
- Electronics manufacturing has grown nearly six-fold in the last 11 years.
