On 23rd February 2026, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) signed an MoU with IIT Kharagpur to collaborate on advanced telecom research and global standardisation efforts.
- The partnership focuses on 6G, optical communications and non-terrestrial networks.
- It aims to develop India-specific standards for future telecom networks.
- Collaboration includes Passive Optical Networks and advanced antenna systems.
- The MoU strengthens India’s engagement with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and global forums.
- Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) is the technical arm and standards setting organisation of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India.
- TEC formulates national standards for the telecom products and networks to ensure interoperability, safety, and compliance through rigorous testing and certification.
- TEC actively participates in global standardisation activities, engaging with international bodies such as the ITU, the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
