India-Nepal Sign MoU on Forest and Biodiversity Conservation

On 25th February 2026, India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation in forests, wildlife, environment, biodiversity conservation and climate change.

- Strengthened Environmental Partnership: The MoU aims to deepen India-Nepal collaboration in forest management, wildlife protection and climate action.
- Landscape-Level Biodiversity Strategy: Both countries will cooperate in formulating biodiversity conservation strategies at the landscape level, focusing on shared ecosystems.
- Focus on Key Species: Conservation efforts will prioritise elephants, Gangetic dolphins, rhinoceroses, snow leopards, tigers and vultures.
- Transboundary Conservation: The agreement promotes restoration of wildlife corridors and development of transboundary conservation landscapes across borders.
- Protected Area Management: The MoU provides for improved management of forests and protected areas to strengthen ecological connectivity.
- Climate Change Cooperation: Collaboration will also extend to climate adaptation and sustainable management of natural resources.
