Chungthang-Lachen Axis & Taram Chu Bridge

On 25th February 2026, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth inaugurated the restored Chungthang-Lachen axis and Taram Chu Bridge in North Sikkim.
- The infrastructure was rebuilt by the Border Roads Organisation.
- Restoration followed cloudbursts, Cyclone Remal and a glacial lake outburst flood.
- BRO cleared 96 landslides under Project Swastik.
- Four major bridges were constructed and two repaired.
- Eight kilometres of fresh road formation cutting was completed.
- Multiple diversions were created to bypass unstable slopes.
- The 28-km Chungthang-Lachen road has been restored.
- The Taram Chu Bridge is a 400-foot Bailey Suspension Bridge.
- The project improves mobility for residents and security forces.
- The development supports economic activity in North Sikkim.
