Google Unveils Nano Banana 2 AI Image Model

On 26th February 2026, Google unveiled Nano Banana 2, the successor to its viral AI image generation model, as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the AI race.

  • Nano Banana 2 is being integrated into the Gemini app, AI Mode and Lens features on Search, and Flow (Google’s AI-powered video tool).
  • The model leverages Gemini’s faster and cost-efficient “Flash” models for quicker image generation and editing.
  • It offers improved instruction-following capabilities and sharper image details.
  • The original Nano Banana, launched in August 2025, attracted 13 million first-time users to the Gemini app in 4 days.
  • By mid-October, it had generated over 5 billion images.
