Meghalaya Signs MoU under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

On 27th March 2026, Meghalaya signed a reform-linked MoU with the Union Government under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0. It became the 12th state to join the new framework.

  • The agreement strengthens Centre-State cooperation on water security.
  • Key Focus of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0
    • Shift from infrastructure creation to service delivery.
    • Focus on sustainability and long-term water supply.
    • Emphasis on decentralised water management.
    • Empowerment of Gram Panchayats and Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs).
    • Creation of District Water and Sanitation Missions (DWSMs).
    • Promotion of community ownership and participation.
