UP Announces Interim Hike in Minimum Wages

On 14th April 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government announced an interim increase in minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers.
- The decision follows worker protests in Noida and aims to provide temporary relief.
- Unskilled workers in Noida and Ghaziabad will receive a 21% wage hike.
- Workers in municipalities will see a 15% increase, while those in other areas will get a 9% rise.
- The minimum wage for unskilled workers in Noida and Ghaziabad has increased from ₹11,313 to ₹13,690 per month.
- The government clarified that claims of a ₹20,000 minimum wage are incorrect.
- A Wage Board will be constituted to recommend a structured revision of wages.
- The move aligns with broader efforts under national Labour Codes to ensure fair and uniform wages.
- The Opposition criticised the hike, citing rising inflation and cost of living concerns.
