Bharat Khera Assumes Charge as MSME Secretary

On 1st May 2026, Bharat Khera, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, assumed charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

He brings over three decades of administrative experience across central and state governments.
Prior to this role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs.
He was also Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence from 2014 to 2020, handling Indian Air Force matters and Republic Day coordination.
His experience includes oversight of the Border Roads Organisation and defence cooperation initiatives.
Khera also served in the Cabinet Secretariat during the Covid-19 period and held senior administrative roles in Himachal Pradesh.
An alumnus of BITS Pilani and Syracuse University, he has advanced policy training from ISB and LSE.
As MSME Secretary, he is expected to strengthen a sector crucial for GDP, employment, manufacturing, and exports.
