Bharat Khera Assumes Charge as MSME Secretary

On 1st May 2026, Bharat Khera, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, assumed charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
- He brings over three decades of administrative experience across central and state governments.
- Prior to this role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs.
- He was also Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence from 2014 to 2020, handling Indian Air Force matters and Republic Day coordination.
- His experience includes oversight of the Border Roads Organisation and defence cooperation initiatives.
- Khera also served in the Cabinet Secretariat during the Covid-19 period and held senior administrative roles in Himachal Pradesh.
- An alumnus of BITS Pilani and Syracuse University, he has advanced policy training from ISB and LSE.
- As MSME Secretary, he is expected to strengthen a sector crucial for GDP, employment, manufacturing, and exports.
