IPPB Launches SHG Savings Account for Rural Women

On 30th April 2026, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) launched a dedicated Self Help Group (SHG) savings account to strengthen financial inclusion and empower women-led groups in rural India.
- The account offers zero balance, zero charges, and no minimum deposit requirement.
- It is designed to help SHGs integrate into the formal banking system more effectively.
- Features include aRs.2 lakh maximum balance, quarterly interest payouts, and free basic banking services.
- IPPB will leverage its extensive postal network and doorstep banking model for outreach.
- Digital onboarding and biometric-enabled banking are included to improve accessibility.
- The initiative supports rural livelihood ecosystems linked to SHGs, NRLM, and NABARD-backed programmes.
- The scheme is expected to enhance economic participation and financial empowerment of rural women.
- IPPB, launched in 2018 under the Department of Posts, focuses on inclusive banking for underserved communities.
