On 18th May 2026, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications launched the ₹175-crore ‘Coffees of Nagaland’ Mission (Cluster-based Coffee Value Chain Development Mission) aimed at transforming Nagaland into a premium specialty coffee destination.

  • The initiative seeks to build a globally competitive coffee ecosystem through plantation development, post-harvest processing, branding, exports, tourism and capacity building.
  • It has been designed through a whole-of-government approach.
  • The programme follows a cluster-based model with two pilot coffee clusters identified in the state.
  • Tuophema has been selected for Arabica coffee cultivation, while Ghotovi has been chosen for Robusta coffee cultivation.
  • The initiative also aims to establish the “Brand North East – Coffees of Nagaland” through media campaigns, trade fairs and experiential coffee tourism.
  • The programme will promote coffee farm stays and farm-to-cup tourism experiences in the pilot clusters.
