National Highways Authority of India

In June 2026, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) introduced a series of technology-driven initiatives to strengthen maintenance of National Highways and Expressways.

NHAI has issued comprehensive guidelines for mechanized maintenance of drainage systems in urban and built-up areas to improve efficiency and quality of highway upkeep.
NHAI has also issued guidelines for deploying Automatic Pothole Filling, Compacting and Patching Machines for faster and more effective road repairs.
NHAI is a statutory body under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
It was established in 1988 under the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988.
