Tripartite MoU for Oil and Gas Exploration

On 11th June 2026, the Central Government signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Governments of Assam and Nagaland for the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.

• The agreement aims to facilitate exploration and production activities in hydrocarbon-rich areas of Assam and Nagaland.
• The MoU removes a long-standing obstacle to oil and natural gas exploration in the region and is expected to accelerate development of energy resources in Northeast India.
