- 30 Jun 2026
On 29 June 2026, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare launched the Unified Health Interface (UHI), the Interoperable Network for Digital Health Services, developed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) to facilitate seamless access to digital healthcare services.
Key Points
- About the Interface: UHI is the service layer of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
- It functions as an open network based on shared technical standards, enabling patients and healthcare providers to connect across multiple digital platforms without being restricted to a single application.
- Mode of Working: UHI operates through open protocols developed by the National Health Authority (NHA).
- The network uses ABDM building blocks - ABHA as the patient identifier, the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Health Facility Registry (HFR) for provider verification, and the Health Information Exchange for consent-based data sharing.
- Key Principles: The system is based on the principles of interoperability, fair discoverability, verification and open protocols.
- Benefits: UHI will provide citizens with simple, transparent, and seamless access to verified healthcare services. It will enable doctors and healthcare institutions to reach a wider patient base without being dependent on any single digital platform.
- The initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for semi-urban and rural areas.
- Services Available: At present, UHI offers services such as blood bank discovery, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)-empanelled hospital search, Jan Aushadhi Kendra discovery, ambulance discovery and booking, and doctor consultations.
