India, Australia Announce 18 Strategic Outcomes

On 9th July 2026, India and Australia announced 18 agreements and initiatives across defence, energy, critical technologies, education and cultural cooperation during the third India-Australia Annual Summit.
Key Points
- Defence Cooperation: The two countries adopted a new Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation, replacing the 2009 security agreement.
- Maritime Security: A Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap and an MoU between the Indian Coast Guard and Australia’s Maritime Border Command were signed.
- Military Engagement: Australia invited an Indian military instructor to serve at the Australian Defence College during 2028-29.
- Energy Partnership: Both countries operationalised the India-Australia Civil Nuclear Agreement, enabling Australian uranium exports for India’s civilian nuclear programme.
- Clean Energy: The Rooftop Solar Training Academy was operationalised to train 2,000 women and youth under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.
- Critical Technologies: The Australia-India Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (PACTS) was launched to strengthen digital resilience.
